About the Cowlitz Wahkiakum Legal Aid Program

There are many legal aid groups operating across Washington State, working on specialized projects in specific areas of the law to collaborative, umbrella groups offering assistance to various local organizations all at once. In the past, if you lived outside of an urban area, you often did not have a way to speak with a local legal aid attorney.logo colora Cowlitz Wahkiakum Legal Aid Program (CWLAP) was formed as a Washington State Nonprofit Corporation in 1999 by local attorneys intending to fill the void left by the closure of a predecessor legal aid group. We are one of twenty-one other volunteer legal aid programs in Washington. We rely on local attorneys to volunteer their time at advice clinics, consultations, or full court representation.

The program obtained a grant and started with an office at the CAP building. In 2012, we moved offices to the Columbia Bank Building, remaining in down town Longview. CWLAP has a full-time executive director, and a board of directors which meets monthly.
